Viettel received first trial 5G licence in Vietnam

The licence allows the military-run company to launch 5G services in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on a trial basis. The work aims to evaluate technical features and the ability to deploy telecommunications infrastructure using the fifth generation (5G) mobile communications system - IMT 2020.

Also according to the license, Viettel is not permitted to collect fees from its 5G users during the trial period, which will end on Jan 21, 2020. 

At the end of 2018, Viettel Group announced it was ready to trial 5G services in 2019 and will launch them immediately after the MIC allots it the frequency.

In 2015, Viettel set up a research group for 5G technology and has mastered the software, core technology for 5G equipment, hardware design for high-frequency transmission and others.

Viettel can design and manufacture 4G BTSs and other important parts of the 3G/4G network, which it has set up in Việt Nam and 10 international markets.
