Symposium discusses ASEAN-Japan cooperation for prosperity

The event was attended by Minister-Chairman of the Vietnamese Government Office Mai Tien Dung, Japanese Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Norikazu Suzuki, Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung, Japanese Senior Deputy Foreign Minister Takeo Mori, and more than 400 delegates and speakers from Japan and ASEAN member countries.

In his opening remarks, Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung emphasized that Viet Nam values and gives priority to assuming the role as the coordinator of ASEAN-Japan relations for 2018-2021, with the goal of effectively contributing to elevating bilateral partnership for peace, stability and prosperity of ASEAN, Japan and the region.

Viet Nam welcomes initiatives and proposals concerning specific areas of cooperation, as well as new cooperation spaces and practical measures, in order to expand and deepen relations between the parties, while promoting potential and effectively adapting to the new situation, he said.

Lauding Viet Nam’s contributions to stepping up close ties between Japan and ASEAN countries, Norikazu Suzuki stated that the issues debated at the symposium went in accordance with the cooperation priorities of ASEAN and Japan and reflected the common aspirations of both sides.

On behalf of the Japanese Government, he pledged to continue strengthening his assistance for collaboration between the countries.

At the seminar, delegates discussed the topics of ASEAN-Japan partnership, high-tech agriculture, smart city models, and aging population. They also toured a photo exhibition featuring 45 years of ASEAN-Japan relations.
